In the 1980s the Guru bought a vast amount of undeveloped land near the very small town of Antelope, Oregon and his followers built a town complete with it's own air strip for 10,000 of his followers. Before he bought the land in Oregon, he was already an established Guru with many followers in many other countries. The Guru from India amassed a huge fortune. He owned 19 Rolls Royces and 2 Lear Jets.
For a man from India who preached that money does not buy happiness, he accumulated a fortune. Years later after his Oregon town was built his personal secretary flew away to an unknown destination in one of his Lear jets, leaving him and his cult permanently. This caused the Guru to break his a 3 1/2 year vow of silence and he then spoke of crimes committed by this previous long time personal secretary including the theft of 52 million dollars of his money.
